Bearings and Shafts for Clarifier Scrapers

Bearing assemblies are the most common failure point of a clarifier scraper: metal wall bearings corrode in wastewater until the shaft stops turning. Our solutions eliminate this problem at the source. Cast nylon stub shafts replace heavy steel shafts and wall bearings — a one-piece design, zero lubrication, projections of 24″/18″/12″, in service for over 30 years. HMAX sleeve bearings (standard and wide-profile with clamping bands) let you replace the bearings on existing shafts quickly and inexpensively, while non-metallic HMAX wall bearings with a replaceable nylon bushing provide the natural lubricity of a plastic-on-plastic pair. Lower bearing drag translates directly into a lower load on the chain and drive.

Cast Nylon Stub Shafts

Lightweight cast nylon shafts replacing heavy steel shafts. Reduce system drag, no lubrication, over 30 years of service.

  • Reduces system drag
  • No grease lines
  • With HMAX static sleeve bearing
  • 24″ / 18″ / 12″ projections

HMAX Sleeve Bearings

Static sleeve bearings (Standard and Wide Profile / Clamping Band) for quick, low-cost shaft bearing replacement. Reduce chain drag.

  • Quick tool-free replacement
  • Standard and Wide Profile
  • Clamping bands (Wide Profile)
  • Lower drag on the chain

HMAX Non-Metallic Wall Bearings

Wall bearings that do not corrode — unlike metallic ones where oxidation freezes the shaft. Nylon shaft sleeve, no lubrication.

  • Cast nylon housing
  • Replaceable nylon shaft sleeve
  • Standard mounting bolt pattern
  • No lubrication required

Frequently asked questions

Why do metal wall bearings fail in clarifiers?

Ferrous materials corrode in contact with wastewater — the growing oxide layer locks the shaft in its seat, and drag increases until the drive runs under excessive load. Non-metallic bearings (nylon/Nyloil) do not corrode and retain their natural lubricity for their entire service life.

Do the bearings require lubrication?

No — all our bearings and shafts run dry. This eliminates lubrication lines, grease fittings, and periodic servicing, as well as the risk of contaminating the wastewater with grease.

What are stub shafts and when are they used?

They are short cast nylon shafts mounted in the tank wall, replacing through-going steel shafts and the wall bearings of idler sprockets. Ideal for retrofitting long tanks (up to 90 m) — they reduce weight, drag, and the number of service points.

Can I replace just the bearing without replacing the shaft?

Yes — wide-profile HMAX sleeve bearings are installed as two halves with clamping bands, without removing the shaft and without bolts. This is the fastest way to upgrade existing bearings.
