Chains for Clarifier Scrapers

We manufacture collector and drive chains for chain-and-flight sludge collectors in wastewater treatment plants — non-metallic (NM720S, NH78) made of glass-fiber-reinforced nylon, and 403 stainless steel (SAV715, SAV709, HB78). All are 1:1 interchangeable with 720-series and 78-series chains, so replacing an old cast-iron chain requires no clarifier rebuild and no sprocket changes. Non-metallic chains do not corrode and never need lubrication over their entire service life; stainless steel chains offer the highest strength-to-weight ratio for bar screens, grit collectors, and wide rectangular clarifiers. We proof-load test 100% of our chains before shipment — every single chain, not a random sample. These are components of verified strength, proven in installations that have been running for more than 30 years.

NM720S — Non-Metallic Chain

6″ (152.4 mm) pitch collector chain in glass-reinforced nylon — a 1:1 replacement for cast iron 720 series. No corrosion, no lubrication, a fraction of the weight.

  • Every chain proof-loaded before shipment
  • Acetal link — reinforced nylon pin
  • Positive Locking Pin
  • High strength, UV resistant
  • Works with F-226 / F-228 attachments

NH78 — Non-Metallic Drive Chain

Lightweight alternative to metallic and cast 78-series drive chains. Glass-reinforced nylon, no lubrication, 316SS pin.

  • Every chain proof-loaded before shipment
  • Interchangeable with 78 series
  • No lubrication required
  • 316SS pin — no cotters or clips
  • UV inhibitors

SAV715 — Stainless Steel Chain

403 stainless collector chain — a higher strength-to-weight ratio than cast iron, without its brittleness and corrosion. Over 4 million feet of this technology in service worldwide.

  • Every chain proof-loaded before shipment
  • 403 stainless steel
  • Lightweight, strong
  • For bar screen & grit collectors
  • Service life measured in decades

SAV709 — Stainless Steel Chain

Economical 403 stainless chain — a direct interchange for cast iron and non-metallic 720 chains, without cast iron corrosion.

  • Every chain proof-loaded before shipment
  • 403 stainless steel
  • Ultimate strength 84.5 kN (19,000 lbs)
  • 720-series interchange — no rebuild
  • “J” cotter assembly — easy service

HB78 — Stainless Steel Drive Chain

403 stainless pintle drive chain — for where carbon steel and cast iron corrode. Runs on cast, non-metallic or stainless 78-style sprockets.

  • Every chain proof-loaded before shipment
  • Interchangeable with all 78 series
  • Minimal elongation
  • J-cotter — easy link service
  • Food-grade lube option

Frequently asked questions

What can replace a cast-iron 720-series chain in a clarifier?

The direct 1:1 replacement is the non-metallic NM720S chain (glass-reinforced nylon, no corrosion, no lubrication) or the stainless SAV709 (403 steel, ultimate strength of 84.5 kN). Both run on standard 720-series sprockets — the replacement requires no system rebuild.

Does replacing the chain require modifying the clarifier?

No. Our chains are fully interchangeable with the 720 and 78 series — they keep the same pitch and work with your existing sprockets, flights, and F-226/F-228 attachments. The upgrade comes down to replacing the chain itself.

What is the service life of non-metallic chains?

It depends on operating conditions — load, grit content in the sludge and how intensively the collector runs — which is why we always match the chain to the specific installation. The material itself favours long service: glass-reinforced nylon does not corrode, resists UV and chemicals and needs no lubrication, and chains of this type have been used in treatment plants for decades. In addition, every chain passes a proof-load test before shipment.

How do I select a replacement if I don't know the chain designation?

Just send a photo of a link and 2–3 dimensions (pitch, width, pin diameter) through the contact form. We will match a replacement and prepare a free quote within 24 hours.

What does it mean that the chains are "proof-loaded"?

Every chain — 100% of production, not a random sample — undergoes a proof-load test at our own facility before shipment. You receive a component of verified strength, with full batch traceability.
